FFA231(MECHANICS OF MOTION)-Of Optimists And Competitions

For this week, we have to pair and act two optional scenes. My pair was Fadlin Sakinah (AKA Lin).

We were first asked to pick random cards that would determine our personalities and our two scene options. And we got;

I got to be a competitive person(which I am, in certain aspects) and she got to be the optimist. We are given a chance to pick other personalities and scenes, but just settle for what we have (although we changed a scenario "A Blind Date" to "Painters and Decorators").
We had no idea what to do for the scenario painters and decorators, so we went for the gym option instead. Because ideas instantly appear within seconds.

So we planned our act to be like this; Lin is trying to become more fit by going to the gym and do the heavy lifting. And then I enter, being a competitive person, always trying to one-up Lin. While Lin, thinking that I am trying to encourage her, tries to lift harder just so she could get better for herself. Thinking that Lin was trying to compete with me, I lift harder and as it goes on and on, I finally faint due to heavy overload.

The part where Lin's umbrella was taken apart was completely unintentional but I guess that shows how exaggerated we are.πŸ˜‚

It was entertaining and made easy for us for we have two options rather than one. Or else we'll be pulling our hair out if we got ONLY the "Blind Date" or "Painters and Decorators" option. But then again, who's not up for a challenge yeah?

Afterwards, we were given a brief on our final project. We have to form a group of four of five to sketch out and create a character of our own for us to act later. My oh my, how the time flies. I still remember the first time entering this class and getting nervous for the future class. I was always nervous to act or even exaggerate my actions in front of people but thankfully, I got a grip on myself and act out anyway. Although, my acting still needs some tinkering. Welp, onwards to the finals!

FFA233(DIGITAL INK AND PAINT)-Hello,Depthness My Old Friend

My, my..after all this time I couldn't avoid this nemesis of mine. Namely, perspective.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE perspective in artwork, but just not ME doing it. I loathe drawing perspective especially if it includes buildings.  I know I should not be in my comfort zone if it includes this huge element in artwork and soon, animations. But I just, I don't know..always get annoyed by perspective drawing. It feels all mathematical to me.

BUT no artist can avoid perspective for long. We ALL need to learn and understand it. *sobs*

So we were given lectures on how perspective works. All the one-point, two-point, three-point perspectives we learned in school. I guess it's a refresh for us. We were also asked to get familiar with basic perspectives; sketch the boxes and cubes thingy by using one-point and two-point perspectives.

After that, we are given a few images to sketch BUT with a time limit which was 30 minutes. 10 minutes per image.

Here are my sketches, the lecturer said she just wants to see basic shapes and the perspective can be clearly seen, however....I did a messy one with colors here and there.  Please excuse the sakit-mataness

 One-Point Perspective

 Two-point Perspective

Three-Point Perspective

Here are extras;

Well, after a while, I THINK I could get used to perspective. Maybe. Will do.
Just need to tame this beast down bit by bit.

FFA231(MECHANICS OF MOTION)-Be YOUR Character!

For this week's class, we were asked act as a character based on a random trait given.
And for my character, I got myself lucky, I guess? Because I got;

Now I don't know if most people know about this or not, but I AM actually shy if you meet me for the first time...Only you don't really see it because my face looks 24/7 angry and don't have time for your crap. I'M ACTUALLY NOT! :( please approach and talk to me, because I am shy if you expect me to start a conversation first.

Although I myself don't know whether I AM shy or just anxious to talk to people. But once I get comfortable, prepare for some crazy shenanigans with me :P

Enough about me though, for this Shy Character I got, I really have no idea on how to start acting this character. Because my name got called first *sigh*. So I had to quickly think of a dialogue and scenario.

For this, I use Aileen as my "Prop" or assistant. Here's my part;
Ugh the cringe

So I am a shy character, who wants to say something to a person. But I'm so shy I had to use my friend to tell that said person something.
...In this case, I just thought spontaneously about the dialogue.
I asked Aileen to tell the person(Halimy) that he looks gay(I'm sorry I really have no idea what to say so I just thought of that because me and Halimy always make inside jokes about that. IM SORRY HALIMY I DIDN'T MEAN TOπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚)

But all in all, it was easy for me to act as a shy person. I sometimes do that though--ask someone else to tell something for me. For example; ask my friend to give my food order to the waiter or something like that.

FFA233(Digital Ink and Paint) -Yin And Yang

As of week 7, we learned to plot light and shadows onto an image using Photoshop.
We have to study and think logically where would shadows fall and the lighting reflects. Light and shadow are essential in almost anything whether life or art.  It guides our eyes to see perspective and depth in things.

Lectures aside, we are given an exercise to test our skills. Our first image; this lovely neat room which I envy of because my room can never get this tidy!

The light should come from the center of the room, which is the ceiling lamp.
However, we are recommended to plot shadows first because it'll make it easier to put the highlights afterward, which is true. After that, we are given few images to give a certain part of the image some texture.

Applying this and that, we got this in the end! It's alright for my first try, I guess.

Here's some step by step;

Oooo but it's not over yet. We are given a SECOND image to practice with. Which is, again, a room I wish was mine because it's not as tidy as this😒

And by the end, we'll get this;
For the lighting, I used a greenish hue and for the shadow, a blue-purple hue. Because throughout the years of my journey being an artist, I learned that not all lights are completely white and not shadows are completely black. Because if we put that kind of color, it'll make an artwork look dull. Unless it's monochromatic kind of art, I guess that can be excused.

Then, bricks textures on the walls and grass textures on the carpet, and voila!
I also added some blur effect because based on what my friends told me; I like being extra.
But still, I don't think this is enough to impress a lecturer hahaha.

Here's the progress:

To summarize, it is REALLY important for any artist, or animation students to comprehend light and shadows. Especially, in 3D subjects in the future. The failure to do so will make one's artwork or animation dull and confusing for viewers to see.
And by far, Photoshop is still kind of hard for me to get used to than SAI, but I'll manage.
